The acclaimed debut of Palestinian-Israeli filmmaker Maysaloun Hamoud, IN BETWEEN charts three women in their 20s attempting to balance faith and tradition with their modern lives while living in the heart of Tel Aviv. Amid a fractious political climate under a regime that exerts constant pressure on them, roommates Laila (Mouna Hawa) is a lawyer who falls into a passionate but tumultuous relationship; Salma (Sana Jammelieh) is a lesbian DJ whose parents set her up on dates with an unimpressive cast of potential husbands; and Nour (Shaden Kanboura) is an engineering student whose fiancé urges her to abandon her studies and become a housewife. Director Debra Granik (WINTER’S BONE) noted, “If you want social justice, you have to give up something….what are you willing to give up? That ethical question is inherently scintillating.”

“Sharp, bracingly funny...there's little sense of grievance or victimhood here, only a liberating anger and a sharp but empathic intelligence that pops up in unexpected places.” -- NPR
