This invigorating film – for everyone interested in the future of cities – is a timely look at what can happen when American citizens become engaged. No one did more to shape our ideas about livable cities than Jane Jacobs, the visionary activist and journalist who fought to preserve urban communities in the face of destructive development projects. This beautifully edited documentary vividly brings her story to life. In the 1960s, construction kingpin Robert Moses wanted to raze lower Manhattan to make way for a highway. Here we witness her showdown with him and the dramatic struggle over the very soul of the neighborhood.
